The heart of Andorra — Encamp, Ordino, and La Massana through the Valira d'Orient and Valira del Nord valleys. Moderate mountain grades on CG-2 and CG-3 with Romanesque churches and valley villages.
The Valira valleys loop is Andorra's cultural counterpoint to Envalira's altitude drama — a roughly 65-kilometre circuit through the Valira d'Orient and Valira del Nord river corridors where Romanesque churches stand in stone beside ski gondolas, Ordino's iron-forging heritage meets contemporary art galleries, and the grades stay moderate enough for relaxed T3 cruising between Encamp, La Massana, and the capital. This is the route for understanding Andorra beyond duty-free shopping: valley agriculture, medieval Christianity, and mountain village life at accessible altitudes.
Andorra la Vella anchors the loop — Europe's highest capital (1,023 m) with a compact old quarter, the glass Caldea spa tower, and shopping streets that van travellers typically bypass in favour of valley exits. Park at the Prada Copola or Parc Central lots; walk the old town. From the capital, CG-2 climbs northeast into the Valira d'Orient toward Encamp — grades moderate at 5–6%, road wide and well-maintained.
Encamp preserves Santa Eulàlia — a 12th-century Romanesque church whose stone simplicity contrasts with the ski lifts visible on surrounding slopes. The town's Funicamp gondola climbs to Grandvalira in winter; summer brings hiking trailheads. Ordino, branching north on CG-3, is Andorra's designated cultural parish — iron museum documenting the forges that once defined valley economy, contemporary art centre, and the prettiest traditional architecture in the principality.
La Massana and the Valira del Nord complete the western arc — Pal-Arinsal gondola, Sant Martí de la Cortinada's painted Romanesque apse, and descent back to the capital via CG-4. Maximum grades around 6%; nothing that troubles a cooled engine.
For VW T3 drivers, this loop is Andorra's rest day — cruise the valleys, stop at churches, avoid Envalira heat. Motorhome areas exist in Encamp and La Massana. Visit May through October; winter ski traffic on CG roads requires patience. Combine with Port Envalira for full Andorra mountain-and-culture week.
